Fort Sherman Playground and City Park

416 Mullan Road
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

City Park is a beautiful green space, full of large trees just steps from the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. The park spans 17 acres and features a variety of activities including beach volleyball, basketball courts, BBQs, pavilions, statues and the Fort Sherman Playground.

Parking

There are a variety of parking options close to city park. The paid parking next to the carousel named Memorial Field Public Parking Lot is the closest. It is $1 per hour as of 9/1/2021. There are a few free 2 hour parking spaces right at the park entrance but those a often full. The surrounding Fort Grounds neighborhood is permit parking only. For those of us who hate paying for parking, you can park next to NIC for free with no time limit. If you don’t mind walking a bit, my favorite spot is across from the Fort Grounds Chapel located at 332 Hubbard St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.

Fort Sherman Playground

Fort Sherman Playground is a 14,000 sqft play structure that is perfect for children of all ages. One one side of the playground is designed for little ones, complete with swings, smaller slides and many things to climb. The other side has even more climbing towers, slides, swings and balance beams. There is a large sandbox and plenty of spots to sit and watch the kids play. The play ground is mostly fenced with an exit on either side.

Engraved Fence Posts

Many CDA parks have wooden fence posts that can be engraved. All the posts at the Fort Sherman Playground have been engraved already but they are available at Bluegrass, Cherry Hill and Shaddock Park. At $30 each, this could make a great gift or remembrance of a loved one. Check out the list of purchasables here: https://www.cdaid.org/872/departments/parks/purchasables

City Park

This lovely park has plenty of shade from large mature trees, sculptures, picnic areas and BBQs. Enjoy the beautiful views or play basketball/volleyball with friends. The park borders a long sandy beach just steps from boat and kayak rentals. If you are feeling extra adventurous you may want to parasail 500 feet above the water! The must see Coeur d’Alene Carousel is located near the entrance to city park. At $2.50 a ride, this is fun for everyone, young and old alike.

Mudgy and Millie

One of the 5 Mudgy and Millie Moose sculptures is located in City Park. The 2 1/4 mile trail, created in partnership with the City of CDA Parks Department, takes you on an adventure around downtown to find all five life-sized bronze moose statues. For more information about the book or the trail click Here. To purchase a copy of the beloved book visit Figpickles Toy Emporium on Sherman Ave.

Outdoor Movies

During the summer months you can catch a family friendly movie at the bandstand. The movie, popcorn and snacks are provided by the Coeur d’Alene police department.

With so much to offer, City Park is a must visit when in CDA.
