Ironman will be coming to Coeur d’Alene on June 27th 2021!
“The IRONMAN races have been a symbol to our community that through hard work and determination you can accomplish great things We are excited to have the full-distance IRONMAN triathlon return to Coeur d’Alene and we are grateful for our partnership with IRONMAN.”- Coeur d’Alene Mayor Steve Widmyer.
Visit downtown CDA and the surrounding areas to cheer on elite athletes while they push the limits. The course starts with a 1.2 mile swim in Lake Coeur d’Alene. Then competitors must finish a 112 mile bike course, which takes them down to Worley and back to downtown. The race concludes with a 26.2 mile run, finishing on Sherman Ave. The sold out event was last held in CDA in 2017. Event organizers stated that over 3,000 athletes have registered to compete in this years Ironman and more than half are coming from out of the area.
What does this mean for you? Well it depends on where you are in Kootenai county. Most of the race will take place downtown, near the lake and Highway 95 south. Even if you don’t live in the immediate area of the race, the event is expected to bring thousands to town so expect increased traffic and activity. See the traffic Impact sheet below for more details on road closures and expected congestion.
Did you know our very own Greg Link completed the CDA Ironman in 2012!
