Post Falls Landing Park

Post Falls Landing Park

“It is the mission of the Post Falls Parks & Recreation Department to provide exceptional parks, services, facilities, and recreational opportunities to our customers and the citizens of Post Falls.”
– David Fair, Post Falls Parks & Recreation Director

Outdoor recreation opportunities in North Idaho are expanding this year with the completion of the new Post Falls Landing.

20 years in the planning, constructed throughout 2021 and 2022 along the Spokane River across from the Post Falls North Channel Dam, Post Falls Landing is a joint effort between the City of Post Falls and Avista to provide public recreation and to support the continued maintenance and operation of the dam. Post Falls Landing includes a multi-functional outdoor space, gathering plaza, amphitheater, benches, water fountain and additional park amenities. Providing a new venue for concerts and entertainment, connecting to Falls Park.

Construction began on the park in early 2021 and was completed, open to the public in May of 2022, incorporating a crane pad and barge landing into the design to more efficiently maintain the dam. In addition to the new park, improvements have been added to Falls Park. These improvements include playground renovations, new bridge decking over the pond, a picnic shelter replacement and improved pathways. Due to continued safety concerns about water recreation in restricted areas around the dam, both Post Falls Landing and Falls Park do not include access to the Spokane River. When the gates are open, water can rush through the spillways at a rate of 3,000 to 4,000 cubic feet per second (CFS) which is why there is safety signage and sirens to warn people away from the dangerous water and rocks in and around the Post Falls dam. Additional improvements include a promenade walkway that will eventually lead from The Landings, along the river all the way to Q’emiln Park.

The upcoming 2022 Market & Music Summer Concert Series at Falls Park Landings is scheduled to run from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday nights starting on July 13. The location has moved to Falls Park Landings. Bring your family and enjoy an evening of food, music, and vendors. The music line-up includes:

  • July 13 The Rhythm Dogs
  • July 20 Current Flow
  • July 27 Chris Moyer & the Downtown Dixies
  • August 3 The Ryan Larson Band
  • August 10 Justyn Priest Band
  • August 17 Nu Jack City

The City of Post Falls will continue to look for opportunities to add new components at existing parks where the level of service may be below the desired threshold. Proximity, availability of transportation, and pedestrian barriers are relevant factors affecting Post Falls levels of service. Based on information gathered during the master plan process, the following facilities were expressed as desired by the community:

  • Adding a Recreation Center with an aquatic facility.
  • Development of Sports Complex; At one time the community had a very robust adult softball program. However, when the facility was closed, no alternative was found and the program was discontinued. Focus group participants and survey respondents expressed interest in adding outdoor athletic fields and courts to provide additional recreational opportunities for adults, as well as young people.

Priorities for new or improved amenities from the public engagement include the installation of dog parks, splash pads, picnic areas, and playgrounds. As growth continues in Post Falls, providing for additional park land acquisitions will be required.
